Weight Increases as Exercise and Fruit and Veggies Decrease

A BBC News article had some telling statistics on healthy lifestyles in the U.S. A research team at the Medical University of South Carolina compared two studies that covered a time from 1988 to 2006.

They found that the percentage of obese adults is over 33%. The percentage of adults aged 40-74 with a BMI over 30 went from 28% to 36%. Exercise levels fell as did the amount of fruit and vegetables being eaten. The percentage of people exercising 3 or more times a week fell from 53% to 43%. The number of people eating 5 servings a day of fruits and vegetables fell by 40%. Of course the amount of people smoking didn't change and moderate drinking went up a little.

These numbers speak for themselves. Obesity goes up when exercise and the consumption of fruit and vegetables goes down. Anyone see a pattern they can relate to?
